Release of 2015 National Senior Certificate results, 6 Jan

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will on Tuesday at 18:00 announce the results of the matric class of 2015 in a live broadcast of SABC1 and eNCA – results which were earlier declared showed a slight drop in pass rate from 2014.

2015 matric pass rate – 98.30%

2014 matric pass rate – 98.38%

“Now that we know they performed below our expectations,we have to support the class of 2015 and encourage those who fell that they still have an opportunity to rise up and become the class of 2016 in making the country proud” – Facebook comment from provincial spokesperson,Phuti Seloba.

Individual results of the 2015 National Senior Certificate will be available on 6 January 2016 at schools and also on Department of of Basic Education website.

The Matric Results SMS and USSD lines will be opened for matric students until 31 January 2016. Students who successful registered in the Matric Results campaign will receive their results on 6 January 2016.


  • Send an SMS to 35685
  • The SMS should consist of your ID number and student number.
  • The system verifies the ID number and the exam number; both numbers must have 13 digits in order to be accepted. The ID number will also be subjected to an algorithm that identifies if it is a valid South African ID number.
  • SMSs are charged at R1.00 per SMS, free SMSes do not apply.


  • Dial *120*35685#, put in your ID number and exam number to register. Once the results are available, you will get your results per subject.
  • USSD has what we call resume session function, where the system recognises the number the next time the user dials the string, meaning that it knows what the last question the learner answered was.
  • The cost for USSD is 20 cents per 20 seconds.
