Six people arrested in possession of Pangolins near Giyani and Tzaneen

LIMPOPO – Police in Limpopo continue to make significant achievements in the fight against crime affecting protected endangered species, which still remains a problem in some parts of the province, says police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

This became evident when four suspects (three men and one woman) between the ages of 24 and 30-years-old were arrested in Giyani earlier this week.

“The suspects were arrested during a sting operation and one live Pangolin was recovered, wrapped in a cloth. It was immediately handed over to Wildlife Conservationists for safety,” he explained.

The suspects will appear before the Giyani Magistrates Court, soon, on a charge of possession of protected species.

“Meanwhile, in the Tzaneen Policing area, three suspects were arrested in possession of a Pangolin which was also handed over to Wildlife Conservationists for safety. The suspects will appear before the Tzaneen Magistratess Court soon on the same charge,” he concluded.
