Cemetery gets a R3,5 million facelift from Tzaneen Muni

Greater Tzaneen Mayor, Maripe Mangena.

LIMPOPO – According to Greater Tzaneen Municipality Spokesperson, Neville Ndlala, the project incorporates the construction of a drainage system to control soil erosion as well as grabbing and clearing to make provision for new graves.

This came after the municipality realised a stream exists between the area currently used for burial and the new site where the new graves will be located, which makes it impossible to access the new site.

“As part of the upgrade, a low level bridge will be built across the stream to allow mourners and families access the new site,” Ndlala said.

The project will cost R3,5 million and a company called Moepeng Trading 40 CC has been appointed to work on the project.

Greater Tzaneen Mayor, Maripe Mangena, said the project will address numerous complaints raised by residents in the Flora Park area in relation to the state of the cemetery and the fact that the cemetery had reached its capacity.

Mangena said they were aware that cemeteries in NkowaNkowa and Lenyenye have also reached their capacities and so far the municipality has already established new cemeteries to cater for residents of Lenyenye township.

He added as far as NkowaNkowa township is concerned, they were still waiting for the outcome of the legal dispute on the land earmarked for the extension as the matter is still before the court.
