Police sportswomen shine on the football field

POLOKWANE – The purpose of this championship is to celebrate Women’s Month.

Players from nine provinces participated, with the South African Police Service Head Office team as 10th sporting entity.

Previous winners included Kwazulu-Natal (2006-2014), Gauteng (2015), Free Sate (2016), and Kwazulu Natal (2017 and 2018).

This year, a total of 82 goals were scored compared to 114 goals in 2017.

Final log standings:

1. KwaZulu-Natal.

2. Western Cape

3. Eastern Cape.

4. Northern Cape.

5. Gauteng.

6. Head Office.

7. Limpopo.

8. Mpumalanga.

9. Free State.

10. North West.

During every event of this type the different teams come together and identify places that they would like to assist in one form or the other.

On 8 August, one identified school was visited when Head Office, Eastern Cape, Free State, Western Cape and Gauteng visited Masedibu High School in Seshego.

Provinces were warmly welcomed by the principal and school management, as well as learners.

One set of soccer kit, three soccer balls, four linesman flags, sanitary towels and toiletries were donated to the school. The soccer kit and soccer balls donated will assist the school in the upcoming school soccer tournaments.

Lt Col Willem Muller, Western Cape team manager addressed the learners on behalf of the association.

“We are proud of the possibilities that we can open for learners in this way and help them support this beautiful game the way we all do. I hope that this gift will assist players in doing their best and better their skills both in the classroom and on the soccer field,” he said.
