POLOKWANE – According to police spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, a dedicated joint task team composing of crime intelligence, provincial detectives, the organised crime unit and a tactical response team conducted a sting operation which led to the arrest of three suspects between the ages of 24 and 35-years-old.

“Preliminary police investigations have since revealed that one of the arrested suspects is an alleged serial rapist,” he said.
The arrest of these three men follows well coordinated investigations which began in 2011, leading up to their recent arrest. The suspects are believed to be behind a series of rapes, serious and violent crimes that were reported around the Dennilton policing area, outside Groblesdal as well as parts of Gauteng.
“The suspects would pounce on unsuspecting women before robbing and raping them at gunpoint and in some instances, they would use sharp instruments. The 24-year-old suspect was joined by the other two suspects during some incidents and they are now linked to 21 cases of rape and several cases of armed, house and business robberies.,” Ngoepe explained.
During the arrest a 9mm pistol, five rounds of ammunition, a magazine as well as a holster were confiscated.
The suspects will make their first court appearance before the Moutse Magistrate Court, today, 2 August.
Saps Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Jim Ledwaba, has commended the team involved in this operation for a job well done.
