Lim ANC Elective Conference underway despite interdict threat

POLOKWANE – According to the spokesperson for the ANC in Limpopo, Phuti Lekganyane, the official programme of the ANC’s 9th Elective Conference began at 01:01 this morning.

Lekganyane added that items on the agenda are subject to change as advised by the provincial executive committee (PEC).

This follows disgruntled members of the party wanting to prevent the conference from resuming, saying the mandate of the PEC, over the gathering, has expired.

The group, whose legal representative is Tumi Mokwena, say they want the elective conference halted and served the provincial leadership with court papers on Friday, 22 June.

Mokwena says the decision to head to court was made following a lengthy meeting on Thursday with the PEC which failed to yield a “favourable result”, reports Mail & Guardian.

Premier of Limpopo, Chupu Mathabatha said upon receiving the papers, their lawyers filed responding documents just before 1 o’clock this morning, 23 June.

The conference is currently underway at Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane.
