Youths start NPO to fight poverty

LIMPOPO – One of the founders, Twisiso Mavabaza, said Victorious Attitudes was registered as an NPO in 2016 and has an education and charity department.

“The education department focuses on assisting matriculants from poor backgrounds to apply for admission at tertiary institutions. We take them to an internet café, at our own cost, and help them to get more information and apply online.

“We managed to register one student at a computer academy this year,” she said.

She added the organisation’s education department also provides career guidance and gives motivational talks to encourage impoverished matriculants not to give up on their dreams.

Twisiso said the charity branch focuses of fighting hunger and poverty in the area by raising donations of food and clothes.

“In the past two years, we donated food and clothes to 14 impoverished families. At the moment, we are only able to donate food and clothes once a year because of a lack of support and sponsorship. Our goal is to make donations on a quarterly basis,” she said.

To raise money, the organisation hosts the Victorious Attitudes beauty pageant and Victorious Marathon every year.

“Our aim is to grow our fundraising capacity and reach a stage where we are able to donate clothes, food, sanitary pads as well as evening dresses and blazers for Gr 12 learners who cannot afford to buy formal clothes for matric dance events,” she said.

Other young people who help Twisiso to run the organisation are Phoslinah Ngobeni, Matimu Mtebule, Gavaza Khosa, Donation Hlongwane and Civility Mathebula.

The motto of their organisation is “Open minds, endless opportunities”, and anyone who wants to contact them can call 073 735 3206 or e-mail
