“There was an unfortunate incident on Monday, 21 May, where an on duty traffic officer was knocked by a motorist who was refusing to be issued with a traffic fine for parking illegally. The municipality urges all motorists to obey and respect instructions from traffic officers and the rules of the road at all times to avoid unnecessary actions taken against them for non-compliance,” the statement read.

Backup had to be called and the concerned motorist, who was identified as a lawyer, was detained and will be facing the mighty hand of law.

The injured traffic officer was taken to hospital and later released and is now recovering at home.

“The municipality will enforce the law on the roads and requires full cooperation from the public to ensure that the roads are safe,” the statement concluded.
