Suspect shot dead in shootout with police near Makhado

POLOKWANE – The manhunt follows a robbery in the Tshikota area outside Makhado on Wednesday, 2 May.

According to police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, three armed suspects entered a rental place and robbed victims of cellphones, laptops and cash. During this, a 34-year-old man was shot and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

“Police were summoned and reacted swiftly. The three suspects were spotted along one of the streets and police warned them to surrender. They did not comply and began shooting at the police, who retaliated. During the process, one of these suspects was shot dead and the other two evaded arrest and disappeared,” Ngoepe explained.

The process of identifying the deceased is still unfolding.
