N1 accident: Two dead as sedan collides head-on with police vehicle

POLOKWANE – Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala says the accident occurred on the N1- 26, next to the Eerstegoud bridge, near the Shell ultra city.

“A VW sedan lost control and collided head on with SAPS vehicle. The driver and a passenger from the SAPS vehicle sustained serious injuries,” he said.

Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says police in Westernburg are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

Ngoepe says the police vehicle was traveling from South to North when the collision occurred. There were four occupants in the VW vehicle.

“Two occupants from the VW died instantly, the other occupants and the two police officers sustained serious injuries and were all taken to hospital for medical treatment,” he said.

The names of the deceased will be released as soon as their families are notified.
