[WATCH] Sarel Nong takes on Yaks and -17 degree weather

POLOKWANE – While residents of the city got their morning of to a cloudy and chilly start, spare a moment for Sarel Nong, who is currently trekking in -17 degree weather.

Sarel, who touched base with Review in the early hours of this morning, says they are taking on the majestic Mt Everest day by day.

Sarel added that Team SA are all fine but that one woman suffered from altitude sickness. “She is fine this morning,” he said.

The team have two more days till they reach the first camp.

POLOKWANE – Sarel Nong began his 40 day trek to the top of the highest mountain in the world, Mt Everest.

Nong is currently in Nepal at the base camp which is 5,380 m above sea level. The hike to Base Camp, usually takes six to eight days and allows for proper altitude acclimatisation in order to prevent altitude sickness.

In the video, Nong explains that they are halfway to Everest and experiencing -10 degree weather.

Last year, Nong successfully made it to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro as part of the #Trek4Mandela campaign.
