Motetema cash-in-transit heist suspects remanded in custody

LIMPOPO – Three out of the four arrested suspects in this matter appeared before the Motetema Magistrates Court on Monday and were remanded in custody to allow for further police investigation.

The suspects (aged 33, 40 and 54) appeared on charges of armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle.

The fourth arrested suspect as not linked to the crime and was released, said Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

A manhunt for the remaining suspects continues and the police urge anyone with information which can lead to their arrest to contact Captain Richard Boshomane at 079 894 5501. Alternatively they can contact the 24-hour crime stop number on 08600 10111, the sms crime line 32211 or the nearest police station.

LIMPOPO – Three more have been suspects were arrested in Gauteng and Muplumalanga in connection with the cash-in-transit robbery in the Motetema Policing area outside Groblersdal on 12 February 2018.

The first suspect was arrested at the scene on the day of the incident. This brings the number of suspects arrested to four.

Following the incident the Provincial Tracking Team embarked on an Intelligence led operation, working tirelessly around the clock to track the suspects involved in this incident until they were cornered and nabbed,  said Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

A firearm, a Ford Ranger vehicle (which is believed to be one of the cars used during the robbery) and cash (believed to some of the cash which was damaged during this robbery) were recovered during the arrests.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the recovered Ford Ranger was hijacked in Mooinooi in the North West Province during January 2018.

The arrested suspects (aged around their 20’s and 30’s) will appear before the Motetema Magistrates Court soon on various charges including armed robbery.

Police investigations still continue.

LIMPOPO – A group of 11 armed suspects bombed a CIT vehicle on Monday night, 12 February, taking an undisclosed amount of money.

Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says a dedicated task team, compromising various police units, has been placed in motion following the heist.

According to Ngoepe, two security guards were traveling along the Ramogwera road and upon approaching a speed hump, two vehicles (a white Ford ranger single cab and a silver X-Trail) attacked them.

“The suspects shot at the security vehicles, injuring the driver and the car swerved off the road. The suspects, armed with rifles, then tried to open the vehicle and when they couldn’t, they instructed the security guards to lay down and disarmed them,” Ngoepe explained.

The susepcts then bombed the vehicle and managed to take an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the scene.

Police were notified and reacted swiftly to the scene which led to the arrest of one suspect and some cash was recovered.

The arrested suspect will appear before the Motetema Magistrates Court soon on various charges including armed robbery.

“Police investigations continue,” Ngoepe said.
