Cash-in-transit vehicle blown up en route to social grant pay point in Ritavi

LIMPOPO – Police in Ritavi, outside Tzaneen, have launched a manhunt for a group of armed suspects who attacked and robbed a cash-in-transit vehicle at about 06:00 this morning.

According to police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngeope, the group of armed suspects ambushed the vehicle along the Khujwana and Lephaphane road.

“The vehicle was enroute to the social grants paypoint at Lephepane village when the suspects shot at it several times and blew it up with explosives,” Ngoepe explained.

The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money and two firearms which they robbed from the security officials.

Ngoepe says they took the Tzaneen and Lydenburg road towards Hoedspruit in a black and a white BMW.
