‘Illegal’ doctors, traditional healers denied bail in Polokwane court

POLOKWANE – The two foreign nationals arrested in this matter, appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today and were denied bail.

The Ugandan nationals were arrested during a tactical joint operation conducted in the the city CBD on Thursday 4 January 2018.

“The police followed up on information received about the illegal activities being run from a surgery on the corner of Landdros Maré and Rissik streets. When arriving on the scene they found this true and subsequently, the two suspects were immediately arrested,” explained Ngoepe.

The suspects face charges of possession of suspected stolen properties, immigration act, impersonating a doctor and operating an illegal surgery and will reappear before the same court on 17 January 2018.


POLOKWANE – Two illegal foreigners who were allegedly posing as medical doctors and traditional healers were arrested during during a joint operation which was conducted in the city, confirmed the police.

Police Spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the said operation, which was focused on the illegal operations conducted by the bogus medical doctors and traditional healers, was conducted on Thursday 4 January 2018 from the morning until late afternoon.

The Tactical Joint Operation was composed of the Provincial Detectives and Tracking Team.

“The police followed up on information received about the illegal activities being run from a surgery on the corner of Landdros Maré and Rissik streets. When arriving on the scene they found this true and subsequently, the two suspects were immediately arrested,” explained Ngoepe.

Some of these activities included the selling of abortion pills and some creams which are allegedly being used for penis and hip enlargement, etc.

During this operation herbs and animal skins, advertising pamphlets with the doctor’s contact details, bottles of some ointment, cellphones, three laptops (one with Musina Municipality emblem), tablets and medical equipment was confiscated, he confirmed.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that both the arrested suspects, , aged 31 and 33-years-old, are illegal foreign nationals. They will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon on the charges of possession of suspected stolen properties, illegal immigration act, impersonating a doctor and operating an illegal surgery.

Police investigations still continue.
