Redboy Mchangana up for SATMA award

Redboy Mchangana is one of the nominees in the Best Xitsonga Album category for this year's SATMA Awards.

LIMPOPO – His 13-song album, Blesser, is enjoying airplay on local radio stations. In the category, he is pitted against Team Nyenya (Yeso Va Rivaleli album) and Sir Jambatani (Milorho album). Blesser is his eighth album.

The theme for this year’s awards is: ‘Celebrating Legends’, which is meant to honour, celebrate and acknowledge pioneers of traditional music for preserving indigenous music of South Africa.

He said he is excited for being nominated.

“I feel honoured and humbled to be recognised for my music. It is priceless,” he added.

“To all my fans, this nomination belongs to you. Your support put me where I am today and the victory is entirely dependent on you. You have done me a great honour by supporting my music since day one,” he added.

He further said: “I started singing Hip Hop music in 2004. In 2005, I changed the genre to Xitsonga music.”

He also said Parson ‘Mapayitele’ Chauke taught him how to play most musical instruments. He hails from Phaphazela village, outside Malamulele.

The awards will be hosted in the North West Province at Mmabatho Convention Centre on 29 and 30 September.
