Building an empire

POLOKWANE – House DJ duo Dalco J Dorn and Elias Bless Mashatola, have set out to provide good quality beats to partygoers.

Both musicians grew up in Turfloop. After high school, Dalco J Dorn decided to take a gap year. During this time, he performed as a DJ at different venues.

“We received deals to supply various digital stores such as iTunes, Traxsource and Amazon with music. We specialise in house music, as well as hip hop and were signed by Amadea Music,” he explains.

The pair look up to Detroit Swindle, a duo group from Detroit who play house music, as well as Layabout from the United Kingdom and Atjazz. “My favourite DJ and producer in South Africa would be Da Capo.

“I would love to work with him,” says Dalco J Dorn. They have performed at Waterland in Polokwane and at a Christmas party for Africa Bank.

“It is very hard work, especially getting samples together. We have to work with other DJs and have a good relationship with them.” Although the music keeps them busy, they are looking for jobs to boost their income. Currently, they work from a digital station at home and wish for their label TSLMusiQa.Ent, to become a household name for house music in the world.

“The worst part of this business is when you work hard and people do not recognise it, or when people do not take your work seriously. We want to build our own empire.”

As motivation for other who wish to follow in their footsteps, the duo says that you should follow your dreams. “Do not take criticism personally, anything is possible if you believe in it.”
