Seminar to enrich sport in rural areas

POLOWKANE – The soccer workshop is aimed at gathering coaches from various areas, such as Mankweng, Ga-Molepo and surrounding areas, to share ideas and knowledge with one another on how to manage and coach young talented soccer players.

“The reason I decided to organise such a workshop is because I realised the young boys, as well as their coaches from the rural areas, are not receiving as much attention and exposure in the soccer and sport industry because they are far from resources such as soccer training fields and information on how to register a soccer team so they can play against other teams. This made me realise how overlooked the situation is. With this workshop I hope to reach out to as many sport officials as possible so we can be able to nurture, as well as afford equal opportunities, to everyone in this industry,” said Project Manager, Sehlaphelo.

The organisation is a non-profit self-funded initiative which aims to empower both qualified and unqualified coaches to ensure sport development improves, especially rural sport development.

A lot of sporting talent, dedication and passion hails from individuals in the rural areas which are almost always sidelined due to a lack of money to pay affiliation fees in order to belong to soccer clubs, he explained.

Molepo, founder of the Mokumong Foundation which deals with sport development in the rural areas, is serving as the project administrator of the workshop. He said when Sehlaphelo approached him with the idea he felt compelled to help in every way possible as he strongly believes a coach is the most important aspect of any soccer player’s career.

The soccer coaching seminar will be free and will take place on 29 July, at the Lepharo Crèche, next to the Hungry Lions Sportsground in Mankweng.

Local soccer teams and coaches are encouraged to attend and arm themselves with coaching knowledge and skills.
