Infant dies after mom is forced to give birth in taxi

LIMPOPO – Her newborn baby died after she gave birth.

According to her, the nurses at the clinic checked her and told her to go to Malamulele hospital instead of calling an ambulance.

“While I was inside the taxi I started feeling contractions, and instead of commuters and the driver helping me he just parked his car and all the commuters got out. I was left all alone,” she said.

She then asked a bystander to call a man she knew who owned a private car and he demanded R300, which she did not have.

In light of this, Ester wants the nurses to be charged with negligence. She said she doesn’t understand why she was turned away while she was in serious pain.

Department of Health Spokesperson, Thabiso Teffo, said the department is aware of the allegations and they will investigate.

“As a department, we have commissioned an investigation team to look into the matter as we can’t tell what really happened, however, we are disappointed to receive such complains,”he said.
