SAPS foil robbery in Burgersfort

LIMPOPO -Police received a tip-off from residents about a group of criminals on their way to commit business robbery in the area on Saturday evening. A special police operation conducted by the Provincial Tracking Team together with the Polokwane Tactical Response Team (TRT) and the Provincial Detectives spotted and stopped the suspected vehicles while en-route to the said targeted businesses in Burgersfort, accordsing to Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

The vehicles, a Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Tazz, searched and following items were recovered:  14x station signal jammer devices, 2x 9 mm pistols with two magazines and 16 live rounds of ammunition, 2x angle grinders, a compressor, a jack hammer, 18x grinder cutting discs,  2x electric extention cords, a heavy duty tool, 5x balaclavas, five pairs of hand gloves, 1x dusk mask and 2x angle grinders. The two vehicles, both their chassis were tampered with, were also confiscated.

The seven suspects, aged between 24 and 53-years-old, were arrested and will appear before the Burgersfort Magistrate’s Court today (Monday) on charges of  Conspiracy to commit business robbery, housebreaking and theft  business, Possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, Possession of housebreaking equipment, Possession of jamming signal devices and Possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles.

“The suspects are still being profiled to determine if they are linked to crimes in other areas,: added Ngoepe.

Police investigations continue.

The Provincial Commissioner Lt General Nneke Ledwaba commended the members for a sterling proactive police work. He thanked community members for assisting the Police in foiling these crimes and urged them to continue doing so in Oder to rid this Province of any form of criminality.
